My name is Sarah T and my first “Barbie” was actually her friend, Midge. I got her in 1962 when I was 4 years old. My older sister, Sue, got the blonde bubble cut Barbie about the same year. Soon after, Ken (released in 1961) and Allan (released in 1964) joined the crowd. In 1967, I got the Twist ‘n Turn Barbie, very modern for that time.
As a child, I played with these 5 dolls constantly with my next door neighbor Marsha. As I got older, I put them in storage units in Austin, TX and Stonington, CT. In 2021 I moved them to Ireland and due to covid restrictions I had the time to wash the dolls and their clothes following Google guidelines. I learned Barbies should never be submerged in water! The clothes were in dire need to repair; new snaps, stitches and patches. Then, once everything was washed, repaired and ironed, I thought I should take photos of all the outfits since my goal was to eventually give my Barbies to my partner’s granddaughters. Hence the Vintage Barbie Clothes Collection book was made. Then I started making monthly displays depicting a scene of the season and the Vintage Barbie Calendar 2023 was made. Most of the things in these displays were objects from around the house, old decorations I had or little things I picked up at discount stores..
To this day I still enjoy creating Barbie scenes to share with Family and Friends…and the gift to the granddaughters?….we’ll that will have to wait another year. 😉
